About Louise
I help women and their families develop a healthier relationship with food and their bodies and rediscover the joy of eating. That is my passion and I’d love to share that with you.
Growing up in Sydney, Australia I had what most people would consider a privileged upbringing. Some of my best memories are heading down to the beach as a family on a Saturday morning in the summer with our boogie boards(!), playing tennis on a long balmy summer evening with family friends or meeting up with all our cousins. Wherever we were, there was always plenty of good food and even as a small child I was already aware that food and sharing it was something to be savoured, enjoyed and shared with loved ones.
Later as a teenager, I became fascinated by the role that food and nutrition play in health – a fascination that led me to pursue a career in nutrition and dietetics. Like most dietitians at that time, my training included a weight-centric approach to health. Many years later, I no longer support the intentional pursuit of weight loss. You may be wondering how it’s possible that a dietitian no longer advises people to diet (it’s in the name after all!). Well, research shows that most people who lose weight eventually regain the weight they lose. Dieting also results in a pre-occupation with food and body and is associated with eating disorders, disordered eating, binge eating and increased body dissatisfaction. This is why I now choose to specialise in approaches aligned to HAES (Health At Every Siz), including Intuitive Eating where health – both mental and physical and not weight- is the focus.
